What do I have?

• Inventory quantity and quality of each valuable species
  • Boardfeet (1' x 1' x 1") for sawlog and veneer products
  • Cords (4' x 4' x 8') for pulp, firewood, and boltwood
• Maps of boundaries, roads, and stands

Markets?

• Location: within ~60 miles
• Specifications: different uses = different specs = different payments
  • Species
  • Size: diameter and length of cut logs
  • Quality
• Time of year: payment and need based on season
• Trends in demand: When oil prices increase firewood prices increase.
• Sufficient quantity
  • For logger: need at least one week of cutting to warrant moving equipment
  • For hauler: large enough load to justify travel cost
