Some consultants belong to the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF)

The Consulting Forester and Small Woodlot Certification Program

Scientific Certifications Systems has developed a third party forest management certification program to identify and recognize sustainable forestry operations on small woodlots (under 2500 acres). The program evaluates timber resource sustainability, forest ecosystem maintenance, and financial and socioeconomic considerations. A sample of woodlots under the forester's care are evaluated. To be certified, all criteria must be met for each woodlot evaluated. Activities are audited annually to ensure continued adherence. Woodlots under a certified forester's care are also certified. This means the products of these woodlots are certified as coming from sustainable woodlots, for improved timber marketability. This rewards the efforts of consulting forester who are sustainably managing small woodlots.
