Tanglewood
4-H Camp and
Learning Center
Tanglewood provides an environmentally -focused summer camp for
Maine Youth and a natural resource learning center for all ages. Its
mission is to provide an affordable, hands-on approach of
environmental education for all ages that takes advantage of
Tanglewood's natural setting.
Tanglewood is located on a 830 acre forest in Lincolnville that is
part of Camden Hills State Park. Its conference/retreat center
includes cabins with bunk beds, rustic wood-heated meeting rooms,
fully equipped kitchen, and a spacious dining hall. For rental

The following are the programs that occurred for 1996. For more
complete descriptions, prices, dates, and registration materials

Youth Programs
- Traditional overnight summer camp, ages 8-14
- Summer day camp, ages 6-8
- Girls Science Camp: 1 week overnight summer camp, grades 4-6
- Discovery Program: Focus on developing life skills, mostly as
part of summer camp
- Group Challenge: One week focus on group participation and
problem solving, ages 12-14
- Leadership I: Two week focus on leadership skills, ages
14-16
- Leadership II: One week canoe trip and two weeks of focus
on leadership, ages 15-17
- Counselor Volunteer: Must have completed 10th grade and
have approval
- Ducktrap Exploration: Explore the Camden Hills, nearby
lakes, and an off-shore island, ages 12-14
- Farm to Forest: Find out what forests and farms have in
common by living on a Maine farm, ages 11-13
- Living with the Earth: Low impact camping and group living,
ages 10-12
- Island and Sea Exploration: Spend a week on a Maine island,
ages 13-16

- Earth Connections School Program: Day long environmental
education programs for groups of grades K-8
- Freshwater Exploration: Explore Ducktrap pond
- Forest Ecology Adventure: Investigate soil, trees, and
wildlife
- Yankee Woodlot Expedition:
Lessons of ecology, sustainable forestry, and woodlot
Management
- Intertidal Discovery: Learn about marine critters and
intertidal changes
- Building Our Human Community: Communication, cooperation,
and confidence
Adult and Family Programs
